Comment on Sagging Zenith Nose Gear? by Chuck Deiterich https://www.kitplanes.com/sagging-zenith-nose-gear/#comment-405696 Thu, 19 Sep 2024 03:36:16 +0000 https://www.kitplanes.com/?p=203372#comment-405696 N701TX has never been hard to steer. With a Jabiru 2200, lighter than the Rotax 912, a lesser strength bungee is in place.

Comment on $24,900 Diesel Announced by Superior, Legend Cub by Tom https://www.kitplanes.com/24900-diesel-announced-by-superior-legend-cub/#comment-405668 Wed, 18 Sep 2024 21:35:27 +0000 http://www.kitplanes.com/24900-diesel-announced-by-superior-legend-cub/#comment-405668 Unfortunately, Eberhard, the Gemini engine never made it to production. The program seems to have continued development after our article, then was put on the very back burner (the one that isn’t lit) when COVID hit. The last word we had from Superior was the program hardware is still extant, but shelved until more favorable conditions appear. Because no engines were produced there are none on the used market, no definitive pricing, models or specifications were released.

Thanks in advance.

Or convert to the new Strut with the rubber pucks.

Comment on Sagging Zenith Nose Gear? by Ray Toews https://www.kitplanes.com/sagging-zenith-nose-gear/#comment-405484 Tue, 17 Sep 2024 15:12:27 +0000 https://www.kitplanes.com/?p=203372#comment-405484 The Zenith bungee suspension system is ineffective. It makes the nose wheel very stiff to turn. There is an alternative that has been used by many people. Viking sells a spring nose gear that does an excellent job of keeping the nose up.
I have just completed modification of the main gear as well to a spring system. The dual bungee system on the mains is so stiff as too be unusable. The design of the wheel fork to the gear leg led to a failure and a wheel loss with a one wheel landing off the side of the runway.
There is no such thing as “can’t be improved”.
The homebuilding community is an example of this.

I use a Dymo Rhino, but Brother P-Touch is also very popular.

Very handy! And needed for aircraft wiring . . .

Comment on Where Are the Instructions? by Jason Reichter https://www.kitplanes.com/where-are-the-instructions/#comment-405470 Tue, 17 Sep 2024 12:19:08 +0000 https://www.kitplanes.com/?p=203381#comment-405470 I found the firewall forward part easy. Hopefully the kit maker can provide some engine baffles. Those would be a pain to have to make from paper templates. The rest is pretty straight forward. That is for those of us who grew up around and working on planes. For those not so fortunate, taking pictures of similar planes with the cowling off is a good guide. Lots of pictures.

I wish I knew how to get that done.
